Matt Silva signs with Boden BK in Sweden!!

The hunt for a goalkeeper has a long history at BBK, but now they have at least filled a gap in the keeper page.  24-year-old Matt Silva from Canada has signed for the club.

– We have searched goalkeepers for a long time and it feels good that Matt is now complete. We have seen him on a few occasions in the past, among other things, he was with the PSC to Dubai last year and played against BBK and IFK Luleå, said sporting director Christian Samuelsson.

Matt Silva comes from games in the Filipino’s top league with Kaya FC, but last year also had a trial with MLS team Sporting Kansas City. Before that, he played college football in the United States for the Le Moyne College and is part of Just4Keepers Goalkeeper Academy in Hamilton, Ontario.

– He is a solid goalkeeper with good character and experience that we think will fit in well with us, says Christian Samuelsson.

He came to Boden on Thursday night and very tired after the trip from Canada he had time to get acquainted a little with his new teammates in training before he signed for BBK.

– It’s nice to finally be here. It was a long journey, but I look forward to the season and to get to start practicing with the guys, he says.

How is it that you ended up in Boden?

– I met Christian Samuelsson by the PSC in 2013 when we were in Sweden and Finland. He’s been my coach there and we have kept in touch. I am very happy that he had contacted me.

And what do you know about the club you are going to play for?

– I know it’s a very storied club with many great people. Have heard from several players who play here before they really enjoyed working here and I hope to do the same.

Already tomorrow he can expect to get to debut in BBK-shirt and it will be a tough one. When you meet div 1 team Piteå in the season’s third friendly match.

– I am fit and would like to get into the team. Looking forward to playing soon, it will be beautiful, he says.

Silva Portuguese origin, but becomes the second Canadian goalkeeper in BBK. Do you remember the first? Kenny Stamatopoulos played with BBK in 2005 and is since a few years back goalkeeper in the Premier Division AIK. Furthermore, Silva has previously played with Gino Mauro.

The other goalie record is not clear in the current situation, but it can become Mattias Hofling who played with BBK last weekend. He has moved to Luleå studies.

– We are also working with Mattias’ll play with us so we have two good goalkeepers, says Samuelsson.

Matt has been working hard and we at J4K Hamilton are proud to support him and wish him success as he continues to impress at the Professional level. Congratuations!!!
